We never harvest living Tōtara trees.
A world-first circular model
Unlike conventional botanical ingredients that rely on cyclical cultivated crops or harvested forests, Bioactive Totarol™ is sourced exclusively from naturally fallen Tōtara heartwood.
Our pioneering supercritical green CO₂ extraction technology allows us to isolate and extract Bioactive Totarol™ from fallen trees and forestry by-products without impacting living forests.
In the earliest days of research, Bioactive Totarol™ was even recovered from historic fence posts, wharf piles and foundation blocks that had remained remarkably preserved over time.
Today, all sourcing comes from naturally fallen Tōtara recovered from the forest floor and approved forestry waste streams. Proudly no living trees touched.

Hyperganic operates within a circular production model designed to maximise value while minimising environmental impact.
After Bioactive Totarol™ has been extracted, the remaining wood fibre is repurposed and returned to the land as a valuable resource for local plant nurseries and regeneration projects.
This approach ensures the full value of the resource is utilised while reducing waste throughout the production cycle.

Protecting native forests is not simply part of our sourcing strategy — it is part of our responsibility.
As proud Kahurangi Partners of Trees That Count, we actively support the restoration of New Zealand's native forests and biodiversity through tree planting initiatives across Aotearoa.
For the equivalent of every mature Tōtara tree utilised through our production process, more than 1,000 native trees are planted to help regenerate natural ecosystems and strengthen the long-term health of New Zealand's landscapes.
Through our partnership with Trees That Count, we contribute directly to the restoration of native habitats, ensuring the environmental impact of our work extends far beyond the ingredients we produce.
The result is a model built not on extraction, but regeneration — investing in the future of New Zealand's forests for generations to come.
